Bobbie "Mop" Nix

Bobbie “Mop” Nix, 86, passed away on May 7, 2021 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on December 22, 1934 in Kingsville, Texas to Vera and Ralph Lanier.

Bobbie taught Home Economics in Kingsville for 33 years until her retirement in 1987.  She was honest and straight forward in her approach to civic activities, business and family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kingsville, Kingsville Women’s Club, Garden Club, Investment Club, Kleberg County Historical Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Kingsville Action Network, Sellers Market, the Mayor’s Future Group, and the TAMUK President’s Circle. She was one of the founders of La Posada de Kingsville. She served on the KISD School board and the Chamberlain Cemetery board. She also served on the board of directors for the American Heart Association, El S.O.L., and the Flato Opera House.

She will forever be remembered as the lady who never missed a morning cup of coffee at Lydias, the lady who gave out pencils instead of candy at Halloween because the teacher & nutrition freak in her believed kids just needed more pencils, the lady who had a love for sports and never missed a game, whether it was her grandkids, the Texas Rangers or the TAMUK Javelinas, and as the lady who would embarrass her grandkids by pulling over in the middle 6th & King to rip down other people’s garage sale signs off telephone poles because it “looked awful.”

She is proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold Nix and nephew, Phillip Nix.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Paul) Drown of Austin, TX and Kay (Ross) Irby of Kingsville, TX; three grandchildren, Sharla (Payne) Neessen of Corpus Christi, TX, Tyler (Jessey) Irby of Kingsville, TX, and Robert Irby of Kingsville, TX; one great granddaughter, Kate Taylor Neessen of Corpus Christi, TX; and three nieces, Celia (Billy) Shannon of Rockport, Texas, Sara Beth (Jack) Wardinsky of Rockport, TX and Katy (Jim) Hada of Houston, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Scott Irby, Billy Saul, John Saenz, Vern Crocker, Billy Shannon, and Jimmy Geryk. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Irby, Robert Irby and Tom Brookshire.
