Wayne Warren Sheffey, 89, of Kingsville, Texas passed away December 25, 2020 in Dallas, Texas surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Wayne was born September 19, 1931 in Harlingen, Texas to Billie Marshall and Avis Estelle (Hamor) Sheffey.

He spent his first years in Del Rio, Texas, later moving to San Benito, Texas. He was graduate of San Benito High School in 1949 where he was voted to be Most Handsome and elected senior class President. He achieved the Eagle Scout Award.

Wayne (Class of 1953) received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M College (TAMC). He was a member of the Aggie Corp of Cadets where he met and maintained life-long friends. At A&M College Wayne was the Vice President of the Rio Grande Valley Club and participated in intramurals. Wayne was proud to be a part of Company D Field Artillery. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. His assignments in the Army took him through Fort Sill in Lawton Oklahoma, Korea, Japan, and eventually to Honolulu, Hawaii. His expertise was in field artillery. While serving in Korea, Wayne participated in Operation Glory which involved the repatriation of fallen soldiers.  He was stationed at Schofield Barracks/Fort Shafter as 1st Lieutenant in the 25th Infantry Division, known as the Tropic Lighting Division.

Shortly after being stationed in Honolulu, Wayne married Vivian E. Stratton on December 31, 1954 at The Cathedral of St. Andrew in Honolulu.

Wayne and Vivian moved back to South Texas in 1955. In 1957 Vivian gave birth to Irish twins David Warren in January and Deborah Ann in December.

Wayne continued serving our country as a US Army Reservist for many years after leaving the Army full time.

Wayne was a self-employed investor and salesman.  He made a career representing Transamerica, Metropolitan, and numerous other insurance companies and financial institutions. He was an avid investor who enjoyed reading about investment opportunities. Wayne was a people person. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting clients in his office or just speaking to people he knew anywhere.

He was the oldest of four siblings. He cherished his relationship with his two brothers Everett and Harold Sheffey and sister Janis Pattillo.

He was a kind and cheerful son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Wayne was kindhearted! He has been reunited with his wife Vivian E. Sheffey on Christmas Day as she preceded him in death 2 years to the day.

Wayne and Vivian enjoyed traveling to Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Europe, Canada, and many times to Hawaii with their children and grandchildren.

When asked, Wayne was always proud to call Kingsville home. He and Vivian were faithful members of the Epiphany Episcopal Church. He was a treasurer of the “Men of the Church.” and a long serving vestry member and lay reader.  Wayne was on the board of directors for the Brookshire Foundation. He enjoyed the Kiwanis Club of Kingsville for many years, serving as a past president. Other interest included the American Cancer Society, University Investment Club, Plumeria Society and enjoyed bird hunting with family and friends. Wayne was honored to serve as a Commissioner for the Housing Authority of Kingsville from September 1997 to July 2015. He always looked forward to his morning coffee with his friends at Harrel Drug. Starting with the conversation and ending with the dice game to determine who was stuck with the tab was his perfect way to start the day with a smile.  He was active in Kingsville life for fifty years.

He is survived by his brothers, Everett Sheffey, Harold Sheffey (Patricia), sister, Janis (Albert D.) Pattillo, son, David Warren Sheffey (Nancy), daughter, Deborah Ann Wallace (John), grandchildren, Susannah (Seth and children: Austin, Sullivan and Teddy) Bame, Robert, Andy (Kiki and children Annie, William and Preston), Christopher (Kristen) Sheffey and Carolyn. Wayne is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at Epiphany Episcopal Church of Kingsville, 206 N Third Street telephone (361) 595 5535 at 3pm on Friday, January 8th, 2021 followed by a burial service at Our Lady of Consolation Cemetery in Vattman, Texas at 5pm.  Wayne’s family welcomes everyone at the burial service.
