Marcello E. Carrillo, Jr.

Marcello E. Carrillo, Jr., 78, passed away on December 9, 2021, with family by his side in Houston,Texas.

Marcello was born October 26, 1943 in Kingsville, Texas to the late Marcelo P.  and Adelina Leal Carrillo.

Marcello traveled with his father in his young adult life, working hard on dredge boats on the Louisiana and Florida waters. He met his beautiful wife, Idolina Ramos, in Kingsville, Texas and on June 26, 1966, they were married.

Marcello and Idolina moved to Baytown, Texas where Marcello worked for 9 years at Southwest Chemical. During those 10 years they had their son, Michael Dean Carrillo and their daughter, Monica Marie Carrillo, and loved the wonders and surprises their children brought to their life.

In 1975, Marcello accepted a job with Xerox Corporation. This opportunity moved them to the West side of Houston in the community of Alief. Here the Carrillo family made their life.

Marcello never missed either of his kid’s sports games or musical performances. He loved working with them on science projects and fixing toys or games that broke. Marcello always had a way of duct taping, mismatching, and super gluing things together to make it work again. Not to mention, if you wanted something he would try to find a way to build it and have you think it looked exactly like it did in the magazine.

After 25 years of service with Xerox, Marcello retired. During his retirement he rekindled his love of music and began playing the bass guitar with his church choir. He loved singing and playing music. He would often tell stories of his younger years when he played the saxophone in a band with his brother-in-law, Leo Sarabia and brother, Robert “Capi” Carrillo, called Capi and the Capris. His face would always light up when he told us of all the venues they played and the band's life of travels.

Marcello also became a proud grandfather, “Papa”, to his first grandson, Andres Michael Carrillo. Marcello loved watching his first grandson play football and baseball. He made every game and cheered him on. Marcello was blessed with another grandson, Isaac Antonio Flores. Marcello would often look at his precious grandson’s face and tears would come to his eyes. Papa’s heart was full of love for them.

Marcello loved his wife of 55 years. Together they built a home and filled it with children and grandchildren. They traveled to Hawaii and Europe and many places in between. It was the perfect marriage of ups and downs with many twists and turns, but through it all, they buckled up and held on tight.

Marcello is preceded in death by his parents Marcelo P. Carrillo and Adelina (Leal), and brother Robert “Capi” Carrillo.

Marcello is survived by his wife, Idolina “Nina” Carrillo and children Michael Dean Carrillo, and Monica Marie and (Roger) Flores; grandchildren, Andres Michael Carrillo and Isaac Antonio Flores. Marcello is also survived by his sister, Martha “Sooky” Sarabia and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Andres Carrillo, Isaac Flores, Dante Tamez, Marcos Chavez, Jamie Leal, Omar Castro, and David Ramos.
