Juan Cortez

Juan Gabriel Cortez, age 58, passed away on June 18, 2019 in Jourdanton, Texas. He was born on August 24, 1960 in Kingsville, Texas to Miguel Z. Cortez and Presciliana P. Cortez.

Once Juan graduated with his Master in Electrical Engineering in 1992, he worked in the telecom industry for over nine years.  During that time, he was given the opportunity to travel the country and the world.   His worldly travels took him to Sweden, Switzerland, Singapore, Venezuela and other countries forgotten by the author.    In 2014 through 2015, The San Antonio State Hospital had Juan for several months trying to diagnosis the neurological problems he was having at the time.  They finally couldn't and commented that he was a 'medical puzzle'.   He was placed in adult managed care with a degenerative brain illness that slowly stole his memories and finally took his life.

Juan is preceded in death by both his parents, and his brother, Miguel Cortez, Jr.

He is survived by his brother, Mark Anthony Cortez; sister, Maria Dalia Daniel (Christopher); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with the rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
