Jose Enrique Mendietta, 82, passed away on August 20, 2021, in Alice, Texas. He was born on February 10, 1939 in Kingsville, Texas to Serafin “Pipino” and Maria Mendietta. Jose grew up, lived, and worked on the King Ranch until he obtained his Bachelors in Mathematics and Masters in Education Administration from Texas A&I. Jose worked for 55 years for the Kingsville Independent School District, 12 of those years as a math teacher, and 43 years as the Director of Transportation, Maintenance, and Support Services. He loved refereeing football, and basketball, and umpiring baseball and softball all around South Texas schools, city and county leagues and Pop Warner. He enjoyed reading, traveling, gambling, hunting, spending time with family & friends, and watching college sports.
He is preceded in death by his beloved spouse of 47 years, Elva B. Mendietta; parents, Serafin “Pipino” and Maria Mendietta; brother, Lorenzo “Lencho” Mendietta; cousin, Adan Munoz Jr.; and son-in-law, Erasmo Perez Jr.
Jose is survived by his two daughters, Belinda Perez (Robert Schmidt), and Sylvia Ann Cantu (Roy Cantu Jr.); three grandsons, Elan Jose Perez, Erasmo Eli Perez “Bo”, and Dante Lorenzo Cantu (fiancé, Amber Yvette Arriaga); sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends.
A memorial rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. with a memorial mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Burial will be held at a later date.
