Gilberto Arguijo, III., a Kingsvillian at heart and an Austin, Texas resident, was born on July 24, 1988, and passed away on May 19th, 2022, at the age of 33. Although his time on this Earth was short, he made a large impression on everyone he knew through his kindness, his excellent comedic timing, and his love of dancing (even though he was born with two left feet, his mom insists that he was a great dancer). He was deeply loved by his family and a large network of friends.

Gilbert was the baby of his family, and we called him Baby Gilbert so often that even his nieces called him Baby Gilbert, earning him the nickname B.U.G. - short for Baby Uncle Gilbert. He loved spending time with his sisters, his nieces, and his mom and dad, and his aunts and uncles. He always joined games of loteria during Christmas and Easter, although his loteria luck was lacking. When we called “el melon”, someone always shouted out, “Baby Gilbert’s head!”.

In high school, Gilbert learned to love playing and watching soccer. He was a fan of Chelsea FC and was so excited about Austin’s new soccer team, the Austin FC. He made his best friends on the H. M. King soccer field and carried those friendships through his time working in Houston, Atlanta and ultimately, Austin.

He made his career in the service industry, working at Top Golf and various restaurants, both as a server and a manager. He loved interacting with people and had a knack for building relationships with strangers quickly. Gilbert’s most honored work, though, was being a father. He was always happy to share news about his son, and frequently sent proud papa texts of Baby Zekie to the family group chat. We should have always known he would be a great father, though - even before Zekie was born, we could count on him for a hilarious (but terrible) dad joke.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his beloved uncles, Rolando Arguijo and Arnoldo Arguijo, as well as both sets of his grandparents, Gilberto and Aurora Arguijo, and Jesus and Grace Alfaro.

Among those to cherish his memory are his son, Ezequiel Gilberto Arguijo; Ezequiel’s mother, Kaitlyn Samaniego; mother, Mary Lou Alfaro; father, Gilberto Arguijo, Jr and stepmother, Amelia Arguijo; sisters, Grace (Angel Francisco) Zamorano and Amanda Arguijo; nieces, Isabella Zamorano, Olivia Cruz, and Ysela Cruz; and numerous cousins, three of which grew up with him almost as close as siblings - Rolando Arguijo, Jr, Nina Munoz, and Cheyanne Woitas, as well as aunts and uncles on both sides of his family.

The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral procession will depart the funeral chapel at 9:30 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2022, to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church for a mass of christian burial at 10:00 AM. A rite of committal and interment will follow at Riviera Cemetery in Riviera, TX.
