Damien Garza

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Damien. Damien Gabriel Garza was born on July 20, 1992 and passed away on February 29, 2020 peacefully in his home after a long battle with an illness from birth. He was born in Kingsville, Texas, to Jesus Garza and Jennifer Lara, and raised by Alicia and Richard “Pato” Garcia (deceased), his parents and guardians of 27 years.

Damien faced cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus with a resilience and fortitude that inspired all who knew of his story. Even though his death came too soon, he brought so much happiness to his family and the community. Despite all his suffering, his life impacted all of us with his contagious smile and laugh. Alicia never for one moment let his illness keep him from having a beautiful and fulfilling life. Damien graduated Bishop High School in 2010, was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, and he loved to travel, go camping and listen to Selena’s music. Alicia took him everywhere with her – to dances, weddings, parties, and so many other social events because she wanted Damien to have the most normal life possible and he did.

He is survived by his parents, Jesus (Rosie) Garza, and Jennifer Trevino Lara, his siblings, Gabriela Garza, Jessica (Mike) Rodriguez, Lorena (Ryan) Mckee, Mario Alvarez Jr., and by his extended family, Aaron (Rachel) Garcia, Adrian Garcia, Ruth (Robert) Ochoa, Moses Garcia, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Donato and Eustorgia Garza.
