Arturo Alvarez Jr., 82, passed away on March 16, 2021 in Corpus Christi, Texas after a short illness and surrounded by his family. He was born on February 7, 1939 in Kingsville, Texas to Guadalupe Longoria and Arturo Alvarez Sr. and is a descendant of the Angel of Goliad.

He is preceded in death by both his parents and his daughter Linda Gayle Hill and son-in-law Michael Copeland.

Arturo is survived by Edwina Alvarez, his wife of 58 years, his brothers Humberto (Rosalina), Arnoldo (Christine), Gerardo (Stella) and sister Edna Nora Rothwell (Harry). His children and grandchildren include son Harold T. Elias-Perciful (Barbara) of Eureka Springs, AR, grandchildren Daniel Hill of Liberty, MO and Emily Maker of Austin, TX, daughter Marie Lopez (David) David, Christina and Victoria of Friendswood, Texas, son Arturo Alvarez III (Dawn), Adreanna, Elena, and Natahlea of Campton Hills, IL, and Robert Knapp of Houston, and daughter Rosita Alvarez, Jacobi, Misha, Makasha, Cetan of Spicewood, TX, his great grandchildren Allison Maker of Austin , TX, Bethanny, Suzanne, Michael, and Jordan Knapp of Houston, TX.

Arturo was a member of Faith Baptist Church, in Benavides, TX and will always be remembered for the donuts he shared every Sunday. He was a blessing to the church with his kind acts of service.  Arturo never met a stranger as he always made a friend immediately. He always enjoyed his weekly funeral attendance to console the families, share his faith, and greet old acquaintances. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service as a TSGT and retired from Celanese as well.  He was a Master Mason and past Master of the Chamberlain Lodge as well as an Eastern Star past Worthy Patron and a member of the Knights Templar.  As a Al Amin Shriner volunteer driver, he transported many children to Houston and Galveston for treatment at the Shriner’s Children Hospitals, and he enjoyed attending parades and driving his Tin Lizzy.  Arturo was a devoted Christian who never hesitated to serve his fellowmen.  He was a loving father and husband and always found something to repair whenever he visited his children’s homes.  He will be remembered for the many jokes he shared, even when they weren’t that funny. His shared his passion for gardening with cuttings to friends and family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd. Kingsville, Texas 78363.
