Vivian Sheffey

Vivian E. Sheffey passed away on Christmas morning, December 25, 2018, at the age of 86 at her home in Dallas, Texas where she and her husband Wayne had resided for the past five years. Vivian was a 48-year resident of Kingsville, Texas.

Vivian is survived by her loving husband Wayne Warren Sheffey; her children, David Warren Sheffey, M.D. (Nancy Andros Sheffey) and Deborah Ann Sheffey Wallace (John William Wallace); five grandchildren, Susannah Michelle Wallace Bame, Robert Marshall Wallace, John Andrew Wallace, Christopher William Sheffey, and Carolyn Marie Sheffey; five great-grandchildren; her brothers Carroll S. Stratton and Walter Stratton and sister Ruth Carhart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Sterling E. and Vivian L. Stratton and her sister Rose Mary Daughtrey Pennington.

She was born in Sterling City, Texas on March 28, 1932. Vivian was the oldest of five children. She enjoyed modeling and playing sports at Ozona High School and was voted Class Favorite. In 1951 she moved with her family to San Benito, Texas where she met her husband Wayne Sheffey at the First Baptist Church. They were married in Honolulu, Hawaii at St. Andrew's Cathedral on New Year's Eve, 1954 and lived in Honolulu during their first years of marriage.

Vivian and Wayne moved back to South Texas in 1956. The following year Vivian gave birth to Irish twins, David in January and Deborah in December.

Vivian was avant garde in designing jewelry with James Avery for the Texas A&M Mother's Club and sewed beautiful clothing for herself, daughter, and grandchildren. Along with being a devoted mother and wife, Vivian was a passionate participant in the Kingsville community. She was a member of the Church of the Epiphany, Garden Club, Plumeria Society of South Texas, and The Order of the Daughters of the King.

The first of her family to attend college, Vivian was graduated from Texas A&I University with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree. She went on to teach elementary school for Driscoll Independent School District for 20 years. Vivian took great pride in teaching many students how to read including some of her grandchildren.

Following her retirement, Vivian and Wayne enjoyed traveling to Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, China, Europe, and many times to Hawaii with her children and grandchildren.

Vivian was a lover of all animals. She was kind and generous. She enjoyed everything beautiful. She loved her family and friends with all of her heart. She will be greatly missed and her memory will be cherished forever. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Church of the Epiphany, PO Box 1476, Kingsville, TX 78364. A funeral service will be held in celebration of Vivian Sheffey on Saturday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany in Kingsville, Texas. Interment will follow at Vattman Cemetery.
