Vera Kathryn Boeker Yaklin

Vera Kathryn Boeker Yaklin was born February 10, 1935, in Riviera, Texas to Albert and Josephine Boeker and died October 16, 2023, in Victoria, Texas. Vera married Carl Yaklin on October 18, 1952, at Our Lady of Consolation Church in Vattman, Texas.

Vera was a woman of incredible love and generosity, seen in the many ways she dedicated herself to a life of humble service to God, to her family, and to her community. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Consolation Parish in Vattman, Texas, Vera served her church community through her participation in the Women’s Club and the finance committee and by volunteering her time and efforts for countless parish events.

Vera was known to be hardworking and resilient. She spent many years raising her children while working alongside her husband in the fields and tending her home with care. Despite the demands of home, she always made time for her friends and community, whether that meant volunteering or simply having friends over for a game night.

Vera enjoyed the many simple pleasures of life, with a special fondness for sitting on the front porch watching the deer. She also crocheted dozens of afghans over the years, giving them as gifts for weddings, baby showers, and birthdays. These cherished gifts will remain as a testament of her generosity in the homes of so many she knew and loved.

Vera was an avid sports fan, but her favorite games to watch were those played by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Not only was she her family’s most devoted fan, but she was also beloved by all the other players on the team, many of whom considered her an honorary family member.  She also had a strong connection to her community and an undeterred sense of civic duty. With great love for her country, Vera believed that everyone should uphold their duties to both the nation and the local community.  Vera’s strength of character, her generosity, and her love of God and family will all be carried on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Yaklin; parents; and sisters, Helen Blanchette and Elizabeth Remlinger.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her children, Kathy Taylor, Chad Yaklin, Pete Yaklin (Reanna), Susan Chincarini (Gino), and Amy Polly (Roger); 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
