Tomas Salazar Jr.

Tomas "Tom" Salazar Jr., age 83, passed away on January 30, 2019 in Kingsville, Texas. He was born on July 7, 1935 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Tomas Sr. and Andrea Torres Salazar. Tom proudly served 23 years in the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Tom was a cook for the King Ranch. He also worked for Marine Drilling, and he ended his career as a security officer for The National Guard and Spohn Kleberg Hospital. Everybody who knew Tom, knew he was a very kind, generous, and loving man. Tom loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed cooking for his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Popoi. Tom loved to travel with his wife to Lake Charles. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings along with his son, Tomas "Tommy" Salazar and grand daughter Erica Marie Salazar.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Maria Ester, daughter, Helen (OJ) Rodriguez of Kingsville, Texas. Seven Grandchildren, Matthew (Devon) Flores, Amy (Chris) Gonzalez, Alyssa Flores, Samantha Rodriguez, Ryan Rodriguez, David Rodriguez and Trey Salazar. Seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5p.m.- 9p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Kingsville, Texas. Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
