Texie B Odom

Texie B (Overby) Odom “Mama Tex”, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at the age of 94 in Kingsville, Texas. She was born on March 26, 1931, in Kenedy, Texas to Robert and Oda Ethel Overby. For most of her young life, she was raised in the farming community of Overby, near Kenedy, Texas with her brothers and sisters. She graduated from Kenedy High School at a young age and went to work for Bell Telephone. On May 24,1952, she married Joe Weldon Odom and soon began her new career as a housewife and mother to four children.

Tex, as she was called by many, was a devoted servant to God and had an unwavering lifelong faith that lasted until the day she passed. One of her greatest joys in life was spreading the word of God to others.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Odom, sons Michael Wayne and Kelly John Odom.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Kay West (Alan) and Teresa Lynn Garcia (Rolando); 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. Also surviving is a very special friend who was like a grandchild to her, Leah Flores.

A private graveside service was held on Wednesday April 30, 2025, at Chamberlain Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care during her stay and to Dr. Jose Ugarte for his care and kindness he provided her over the years.

Tex’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends and those who loved her.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 30, 20255 at Chamberlain Cemetery, Kingsville, Texas.
