She was born a Hoosier but became a Texan. She met her husband of 46 years, Charles Taylor in 1949 at an amusement park. She was with her sisters and he was with his Army buddies. Charles was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. When they met, it was love at first sight. They were married on December 28, 1951. They had their first child on December 26, 1952. In 1953, they moved to Kingsville, Tx hometown of Charles. Together they raised 5 children. Charles worked for the railroad which took them to different places. They lived in different cities in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Sadly, in 1974, they lost their youngest daughter to ovarian cancer. She became a grandmother in 1974. She became a great grandmother in 1993. Shirley became a widow in 1998 when Charles passed away from complications of heart surgery. She became a great -great grandmother in 2015. No matter how tough life got, she never lost her faith. She loved her family dearly. She collected teapots and clocks. She was a World War II and Texas history buff. She was an avid and passionate reader. She loved watching the news, The Weather Channel, crime dramas, and anything about World War II and Texas history. She was into genealogy and loved learning about Taylor history. She was always there for anyone that needed her, her home was always open to others, and everyone who met her loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Charles Taylor, one daughter Rebecca Taylor, two sons in law Gary Smith and Roy Ennes, her best friend Irene Woolsey, her parents, siblings, and several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memories are her children Charles (Janet) Taylor of San Antonio, Debby (Donald) Bunch of Cumby, Joni Ennes of Kingsville, and Tom Taylor of Conroe. She had 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and loving friends that were the same as family.
