Romeo Lugo Alvarez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Bishop, Texas, on May 17, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 13, 1938, in Bishop, Texas, Romeo lived a life enriched by family, hard work, and the love of those around him.
For 10 years, Romeo dedicated his skills to Western Electric as a machinist, but it was at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he enjoyed a fulfilling 29-year career, that he truly made his mark and forged countless friendships. His career exemplified his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, characteristics that were mirrored in his relationships with family and friends.
A humble and loving man, Romeo is remembered as a jack-of-all-trades with a great sense of humor and an abundance of wisdom. He often imparted meaningful advice to those around him, impacting many lives through his kindness and dependability. He could often be seen working with his hands, indulging in hobbies like carpentry, and relishing the joy that came from creating something with love. His laughter and warmth could fill any room, and he was known for always showing up for others, no matter the situation. His love for his family was profound; he cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, proudly celebrating their achievements and nurturing their dreams
As we remember Romeo Lugo Alvarez, we celebrate a man whose love was strong and unwavering, someone who always showed up for others and was dependable through thick and thin. His legacy lives on through those he held dear and the countless lives he influenced with his kindness and strength.
Romeo's life was a testament to love, family, and the importance of being present for one another. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Ernesto Alvarez and Dino Alvarez; parents, Jesus and Concepcion (Lugo) Alvarez; and siblings, Jose Alvarez, Edmundo Alvarez, Amaro Alvarez, Jesus Alvarez Jr., Jesusa Alvarez, and Maria Solis.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 65 years, Gloria Alvarez; beloved children—Selinda (Art) Rojas, Robert (Claudia) Alvarez, Diego (Debra) Alvarez, Erika (Lupe) Villarreal, and Yvette (Rolando) Garza— who were a constant source of joy; sisters, Linda Soliz and JoAnn Samora; and 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, who meant everything to him.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at St. James Cathlic Church - Bishop, Tx. A rite of committal and interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery, Bishop, Texas.
