Obituary

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Rodolfo “Sonny” Vasquez Jr., a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Born in Kingsville, Texas to Rodolfo Vasquez Sr. and Helena Cavazos, Sonny proudly served in the United States military as a young man and throughout his life found success in many different careers. He was known for his strong work ethic, determination, and ability to fix just about anything. He was never afraid of hard work and took pride in a job well done.

Sonny found his greatest joy in the simple things. He loved spending time at the ranch, being near water, barbecuing, hunting, fishing, listening to music, laughing, eating, and enjoying the company of those he loved. Those are the moments where he felt most at home.

Above all, Sonny fiercely loved his family and deeply cherished the friendships he built throughout his life. In his final days, he was surrounded by so much love, a reflection of the many lives he touched and the love he gave in return.

Sonny’s legacy lives on through his family, his friends, and the countless memories they will carry with them. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit will be found in every song turned up a little louder, every fire shared beneath an open sky, and every story that begins with, “Remember when Sonny…”

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodolfo Vasquez, Sr.; and sister, Sylvia Garza.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his children, Anthony (Felicia) Vasquez and Gina Vasquez; mother of his children, Janie Vasquez; mother, Helena Vasquez; siblings, Israel (Annette) Vasquez, Danny (Shana) Vasquez, Omar (Natalie) Vasquez, Sonya Vasquez, and Sandra Vasquez; sister-on-law, Martha Mayorga; grandchildren, Mikaela Vasquez and Ryan Vasquez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a prayer service to be held at 6:00 p.m. Services will conclude that evening.
