Roberto G. Salas, a man whose life was woven with love, dedication, and humility, passed away on April 1, 2026. Born on September 17, 1950, in Monterrey, Mexico, Roberto’s journey led him to the United States in 1971, driven by the profound love he held for the woman who would become his wife and partner for 54 cherished years.
Roberto’s work life was marked by unwavering commitment and skill. He began his career working at King Ranch Lumber Yard, Wilcox, and Zuniga Gas Station before dedicating 47 remarkable years to King Ranch as the master saddle maker of the King Ranch Saddle Shop. This craftsmanship was a sacred legacy, a trade he embraced and perfected under the guidance of his father-in-law, Guillermo “Willy” Guevara, himself a master saddle maker at King Ranch. Through his hands, tradition and artistry were handed down with care and respect.
Beyond his professional achievements, Roberto was a kind and welcoming spirit, deeply humble in every interaction. He found joy in nurturing his beloved plants — always planting and watering, tending to life with the same gentle touch he extended to those around him. His warmth was felt in every conversation, where he delighted in sharing stories about the many customers whose lives had briefly crossed his path, weaving a tapestry of community and connection.
Among Roberto’s proudest accomplishments were his roles as an elder at The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kingsville, Alice, and Falfurrias, where his leadership and faith touched many lives, offering guidance and compassion.
Most dearly, Roberto loved his wife and three sons, to whom he devoted his heart. He adored his grandchildren, treasuring the moments spent with them and passing on to them the values of love, kindness, and humility that defined his life.
Roberto G. Salas’s legacy is one of love deeply felt and quietly lived—a humble man whose hands crafted not only saddles but also a life rich in faith, kindness and devotion. He leaves behind a family and a community forever touched by his gentle spirit.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Maria Luisa (Garcia) Salas; brother, Santos Salas; and sister, Maria del Rosario Salas.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Dolores Salas; sons, Roberto Santos Salas, Ricardo (Monika Boehm) Salas, and Jose Gabriel Salas; siblings, Jose Pepe Salas, Jose Luis Salas, Maria Herlinda Rodriguez, Maria del Refugio Contreras, maria Ernestina Otero, Juan Salas, and Isidro (Margarita) Salas; grandchildren, Brianna Lynn Salas, Nikole Salas, Kyle Salas, Nicholas Salas, and Abigail Rose Pichardo; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. Services will conclude that evening.
