Richard Kent Newton

Richard Kent “Richie” Newton died on July 8,2024 at the age of 67. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on September 14, 1956, to parents Chuck and Gini Newton. In his early teens, his family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. He then earned a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas, San Antonio. For thirty years he applied his engineering skills as a dedicated civil servant at Kelly Air Force Base, San Antonio and the Kingsville Naval Air Station.

Until age 52, Richie was a self-proclaimed and proud bachelor. It was the kindness and understanding of his future wife, Mary Therese, that redefined his perception of marriage and commitment. He adored and was devoted to Therese, and her sons, Trey and Lawrence. He was also a great Pops to grandchildren Trace and Tatum, taking them fishing, introducing them to Looney Toons cartoons, and making them a big part of his world. Quietly, Richie surrounded his new family with love, wisdom, and laughter, creating new experiences and many happy memories for them.

To know Richie was to feel included he approached everyone with openness and a great sense of humor. Consequently, he collected friends in high school, college, work arenas, and the neighborhoods where he lived. His home was open to all, and there was always a cold beer waiting for you in the fridge. Future remembrances of Richie will no doubt bring smiles and funny stories, a hankering for his bar-b-que, and the longing to visit with him one last time while watching the sun set on Baffin Bay. This loyal husband, son, compadre, college, and neighbor will long be remembered as a special friend by many.

Richie will be dearly missed by his wife, Therese Newton, parents, Chuck and Gini Newton, stepsons, Trey (Laura) and Lawrence Palreiro, grandchildren, Trace and Tatum Palreiro, sister Jan Pledger, brother Randy (Ann) Newton, sister, Jennifer Watt, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, the Huff family, and many friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering for Richie on August 24, 2024, from 2-5p.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church parish hall in Vattman, Texas. Richie would want you to attend in your island best clothes, camo shorts and colorful attire.
