Rene G. Velasquez, a devoted husband, and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on February 3, 1948, in Kingsville, Texas, Rene lived a life rich in kindness and generosity. His warmth lit up every room he entered, earning him the affectionate nickname "la rana," reflective of his vibrant and social spirit.

Rene dedicated 15 years of his life to serving at NAS-Kingsville, but his true pride stemmed from his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. A demolition expert and military medic, he served with valor, earning two Bronze Stars, a National Defense Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with a 60 device, two overseas bars, and the title of Expert Marksman with the M-14 rifle in combat. His sense of duty was matched only by the love he held for his family, which he regarded as his most celebrated accomplishment.

Rene was a true family man, whose heart was as expansive as his patience was unwavering. He often engaged in playful jokes, loved to tell stories of his military adventures, and enjoyed the simple joy of music during family gatherings, and playing the accordion. Music and laughter were endless in his home, where he cherished spending quality time with his loved ones, often delighting them with song.

In addition to his love for music, Rene held a deep passion for antique and lowrider cars. He could often be found working meticulously on these projects or enjoying the company of attending car shows, a testament to his social and engaging nature. Known for his genuine heart, Rene never met a stranger; he had a natural ability to connect with others, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a smile. His kindness knew no bounds, as he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.

Above all, Rene adored his wife, whom he viewed as the love of his life. His family was his pride and joy. He lovingly assigned nicknames to each of his cherished loved ones; a reflection of the unique bonds he forged with them.

The legacy of Rene G. Velasquez is one marked by love and unwavering support. He touched the lives of many; and his memory will be cherished dearly forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by parents, Melquiadez S. and Carmen A. (Garcia) Velasquez; brothers, Melquiadez Velasquez, Jr. and Roel Velasquez; and sister, Adrianna Velasquez.
