Obituary

Rene F. Mora, 79, passed away peacefully in the hospital surrounded by the love of his family. Rene was a caring and compassionate man who wore his heart on his sleeve and was deeply loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends left a lasting impact that will never be forgotten.

Rene proudly served 23 years in the Army National Guard, demonstrating honor, dedication, and service to his country. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He worked 10 years at Gafford’s Supermarket as a butcher, 28 years with the Kingsville Housing Authority, and later spent 5 years working as a security guard at the King Ranch.

Outside of work, Rene found joy in life’s simple blessings. He loved fishing and treasured the time spent outdoors. Above all, he loved gathering his family together every Sunday to cook his famous carne guisada and barbecue, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Those Sundays will forever remain a cherished tradition in the hearts of his family.

Rene was preceded in death by his beloved aunt, Adelfa Flores; his mother, Hortencia Flores; his father, Guillermo Mora; and his loving sister, Raquel Moya.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Hermelinda Mora, who stood lovingly by his side through life’s journey. He is also survived by his children: daughter Dorina Longoria (Johnny), and sons Rene Mora (Melva), Armando Mora, and John Mora. Rene’s legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life.

He is also survived by his brothers Guillermo Mora (Gracie), Ruben, Raul (Ester), and David Mora; and his sisters Guadalupe Flores and Elvira Suarez (Ociel), along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at St. Martin Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.

Rene’s hard work, dedication, and unconditional love for his family will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. The joy, warmth, and love he brought into the lives of others will forever be remembered and cherished.

“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day.”
