Raul Homer Nuncio, lovingly known as “Wayo,” was born on July 18, 1941, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was the devoted husband of Gloria Nuncio for 58 years and a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
A lifelong resident of Texas, Raul was an avid Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan. He was deeply involved in his church, El Buen Pastor Methodist Church, and found great joy in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and practices. Raul dedicated over 15 years as a parent volunteer at Travis Elementary School, embodying his generous spirit and love for his community. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Raul was preceded in death by his parents, Rene & Beatrice Garcia, Victor and Manuela Pena, and Dora Pena; his brothers David Nuncio, Ezekiel Nuncio, Pascual Garcia, Rene Garcia, Richard Garcia, Alfonso Garcia; his sister Dahlia Escobedo; his grandson Martin Barrera; and his son-in-law Lee Beasley.
He is survived by his children: Gilbert (Julia) Nuncio, Raul (Eva) Nuncio, Richard Nuncio, Denise Johnson, Deborah (Alfredo) Bernal, Briana Nuncio, and Patricia Beasley. He is also survived by his brothers Oscar Garcia, Victor (Estella) Pena, Ruben (Christina) Pena, Ramon (Elsa) Garcia, Alonzo (Gloria) Garcia, Sr.; and his sisters Esther (Albert) Benavides, Becky (Alex) Trevino, Elizabeth Pena, Belinda Pena, and Carolina Garcia. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the nurses and ancillary staff at Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care during this difficult time. Special thanks also go to Noe Gonzalez and the staff at Turcotte Piper Mortuary and Sawyer-George Funeral Home for their support and generosity. The family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love from family, friends, and church family through calls, food, visits, and prayers.
The family will receive condolences from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Sawyer George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi; with a service to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. and interment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Raul’s legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
