Petra "Pita" S. Escobedo

Petra "Pita" S. Escobedo, a dedicated caregiver and beloved member of her family, passed away on June 23,2024. She was born on November 11, 1930, in Kingsville, Texas to Emeterio C. and Teresa Q. Silguero. Petra was a remarkable soul who graced the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her profound ways. Her legacy extends far beyond her time with us, leaving behind cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

Petra's professional path was one of dedication and service. She began her career as a cook for the Kleberg family, showcasing her culinary talents and nurturing spirit. Petra then lent her talents to the family of Mr. and Mrs. James Clement, Sr. After parting ways with the family Petra worked as the dining hall Manager of Martin Hall at Texas A&I University. Sometime later her compassionate nature led her back to the King Ranch to again serve as an important member of the house staff of Mr. & Mrs. James Clement, Sr. where she poured her heart into the wellbeing of others until her well-deserved retirement in her early 80s. Petra undoubtedly left an indelible mark on all those she encountered.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Petra will be fondly remembered for her unwavering love for family. Holidays held a special place in her heart, with Christmas and Easter standing out as her favorite times of the year. Her kind, loving, and welcoming nature created an environment where loved ones always felt cherished and valued.

In moments of leisure, Petra found joy in simple pleasures that brought light into her life. From playing lotería and indulging in gambling to hand coloring Easter eggs for her beloved grandchildren, she found contentment in these precious moments. Her culinary skills were legendary—her Russian rock cookies and brownies were unparalleled, but it was her signature 7-layer salad and potato salad that truly stole the show. An avid fan of the Astros and Dallas Cowboys, Petra's enthusiasm for sports enlivened many gatherings.

Petra "Pita" S. Escobedo will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the memories shared by family and friends. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman who brightened our lives with love and laughter, may we find comfort in knowing that Petra's kindness will continue to inspire us for years to come.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Cipriano “Piano” Escobedo; son, Cipriano “Cippy” Escobedo, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael Saldaña and Sara Elizabeth Escobedo; great-grandchildren, Teresa Maria Saldaña and Matias Raziel Escobedo; parents; and siblings, Rodolfo Q. Silguero, Sr., Jose Q. Silguero, Hipolito Q. Silguero, and Emeterio C. Silguero, Jr.
