Perry Mixon

Perry Mixon, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in Kingsville, Texas.  He was attended by his son, Brad Mixon, at the time of his passing.  Perry was born in Kingsville on February 29, 1928 and grew up in Riviera, Texas.  Immediately after graduating high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946.  This branch would become the United States Air Force about a year later.  He served three years in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer in Saudi Arabia attaining the rank of sergeant.  He was honorably discharged on September 6, 1949.

After returning home from the service Perry helped his parents on the ranch in Riviera and soon began working at a local oil refinery.  He worked there for about four years before using his G. I. bill to attend Texas A&I University.  During this time he met and married the love of his life, Janet Reeves, in 1952.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and master's degree in education administration with minors in chemistry and history.  He then began teaching in the Kingsville school system and went on to teach physical science and chemistry at the high school level for 22 years.  During these years he served his local church as a volunteer music minister while his wife Janet played piano.

After retiring from teaching Perry bought an oilfield trucking company but that did not work out due to the failing oil economy during the 1980’s.  He then turned his attention to his other passion of missionary work.  He helped his friend and missionary to Mexico, Bob Smith, over the next 10 years by building a bible college near the area of San Luis Potosi.

Perry was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mixon.

He is survived by his sister Ola Mae Malin; two children; Brad Mixon (Margie) of Riviera, TX, Donnal Mixon-Swan (Malcolm) of Palm Springs, CA; two grandchildren, Michael Mixon (Caitlin) and Ryan Mixon (LeeAnne); two great-grandchildren, Calleigh Grace Mixon, Amelia Christine Mixon and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and New Century Hospice for providing compassionate care.
