Obituary

Pedro G. Cavazos, a devoted family man, talented mariachi singer, and respected public servant, passed away on May 6, 2026. Born on March 27, 1948, on the King Ranch Laureles Division to Daniel and Paula (Guerrero) Cavazos, Pedro’s life was deeply rooted in his heritage and family values.

Pedro’s career was marked by a steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of his community. Before becoming a Sergeant for the Texas A&M University Police Department, he served with distinction at the Corpus Christi International Airport and the Kleberg County Sheriff Department. His dedication to public service underscored his protective nature, particularly evident in his role as the cherished protector of his grandchildren.

Known for his kindness and welcoming spirit, Pedro had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel at ease. His great sense of humor brightened many lives, as he was never without a joke or story suitable for any occasion. Beyond his professional life, Pedro delighted in sharing his love of mariachi music, showcasing his gift as a singer and enriching the lives of those around him with his talent.

Pedro was also passionate about fishing and embraced the modern world with equal enthusiasm as an avid Tik-Toker. Sundays were often spent watching the Kansas City Chiefs, while his legendary command as the “king of the remote” was a constant source of amusement. He had a unique and playful appreciation for movies, famously declaring that his favorite part was “when my eyes are closed.”

Among all his achievements, Pedro’s proudest accomplishments were his family, especially his grandchildren, who spoke fondly of his warmth, protection, and unwavering love. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will endure.

Pedro G. Cavazos leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will remain an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be treasured, and his spirit will continue to bring comfort and joy to his beloved family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Lorenzo Cavazos and Josue Cavazos; daughter, Paula Martinez; parents, Daniel and Paula Cavazos; and siblings, Juan Cavazos, Ofelia Longoria, Daniel Cavazos, Jr., Amada Rosas, and Maria Gutierrez.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 23 years, Maria "Alice" Bazan Cavazos; children, Pete Angel (Melissa) Cavazos of Dallas, TX., Pete Cavazos, Jr. of Richmond, TX., Jeanette (Fred) Cavazos Flores, of Corpus Christi, TX., Lisa (Joe) Cabrera of Oklahoma, Joanna (Sergio) Benavente of Bishop, TX., and Steven Cruz of Austin, Tx.; 19 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive condolences from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 12:30 p.m.  A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary.  A rite of committal and interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemtery.
