Obituary

Paul Martin West, known to many as Marty, passed away on August 22, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on September 29, 1950, he lived a life marked by devotion to his family, commitment to his community, and a warm spirit that made him loved by many.

Marty attended Military Academy and graduated from H.M. King High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in finance from Texas A&I University, now Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Those early foundations helped shape a life of hard work, leadership, and steady involvement in the community he called home.

He began his career in banking before becoming the owner of local establishments as well as other businesses in Alice, Texas. Through his work, Marty became a prominent community figure and business owner, and he participated in numerous local boards and civic groups. His presence in the community reflected both his dedication and his belief in staying connected to the people and places around him.

Marty will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and as a genuine man whose kindness and character left a lasting impression. He enjoyed Berzerka, being “Captain” to all the kids, and listening to Spanish music. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him great joy.

Paul Martin West’s life was one of love, involvement, and deep personal connection. He will be remembered with affection by all who knew him, and his memory will remain in the hearts of those whose lives were brightened by his presence.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Vivian (Erard) West; and sister, Carol “Dee” Wilson.

Among those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, Wilva (Perez) West; children, Barclay (Brittany) West, Camille (Chad) Chamberlain, Savannah (Chase) Drake, and Nocky (Caitlin) Garza; grandchildren, Caden and Aurora Drake, Vivian, Beau, and Illa Chamberlain, Margaret, Thad, and Vivian West, and Evelyn Garza; and many loving relatives.

The family will receive condolences from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a eulogy at 10:45 a.m. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. at St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church. Services will conclude following the church service.
