Pap Paw Glenn E. “Curly” Wallace

Glenn E. Wallace, fondly known as Curly, passed away on March 24th, 2024, at the remarkable age of 90. Born August 6, 1933, to Jay Zalotes Wallace and Lula Opal Richey Wallace in Jourdanton, Texas, Glenn was the youngest of five children.

Glenn was an avid sports enthusiast and was an umpire and referee during his middle years. He attended sporting events for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always encouraging them to give it 100% and was selected The Lady Seahawks Fan of the Year when his granddaughter played in high school. Before each game he would have an encouraging note for each player based on the position they played, that not only provided encouragement, but also joy.

Glenn worked in the oil field for many years and then became employed by Brown & Root, Arthur Brothers, and lastly Celanese where he retired. Glenn was married on December 20, 1952, to Patricia Sue Reeder and together they raised four children. They resided in East Texas for many years until they moved to Robstown, where their two oldest graduated as Cotton Pickers. They relocated to Bishop, and the two younger children completed their education as Badgers. Glenn and Pat purchased a home in Kingsville where they lived during his retirement years. They had great neighbors and enjoyed living next door to Amy, Mike and the girls, as well as Tito, Kim, Caitlin, & Madeline Moreno. Noelia Bazan, a couple of houses down, was also a beacon of light in their lives.

Following the deaths of three of his children and his spouse Pat, he moved into a cottage in Riviera at his granddaughter Leah's property, until a cabin could be built out on his daughters land a few miles up the road. Dubbed “Paps Cabin", it had a covered deck complete with a rocking chair where he would frequently sit out and enjoy the country life. It was conveniently located next to a goat pen and on Saturday evenings he would sit out and hang with the goat ropers that would come out for some friendly roping competition, and perhaps even a couple of cold ones.

After a short stay in the hospital a couple years later he went to Lone Star Ranch and Rehabilitation for some rehab therapy and found his new home. He made many new friends and enjoyed having people to visit with and activities to do. He was selected two years in a row as the Valentine King during their annual celebration.

Glenn attended the Weavers of Love soup kitchen for several years. While in Riviera, his daughter or granddaughter would take him in every Tuesday. He enjoyed having lunch and visiting with his friends; Susan Smith would pick him up from the Nursing home facility and Schryl Fahrenbacker would return him every week, Emma would help him play his Loteria card since his eyesight was challenged, and Mr. Chapa would assist him to and from the car or as needed.

Glenn was placed on Hospice for several days with the loving care of the staff at Lone Star Ranch and Rehabilitation and his family, and he was at peace upon his passing. He will be forever missed by all that knew him. He was kind, compassionate, loving, and a true gentleman in every way.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Sue Reeder Wallace, daughter Deandra 'Dee' Goetsch, son Randle Anthony 'Tony' Wallace and son Jearld Glen 'Jerry' Wallace, parents Jay Zalotes 'Lote' Wallace and Lula Opal Richey Wallace, and siblings Jimmie Marie Bowling, Homer Lee Wallace, Ruby Evelyn White, and Callie Elizabeth Perkins.

He is survived by his daughter Bonita Hubert (Duane); Daughter in law Donna Wallace; grandchildren Brandon Hubert (Missy), Leah Hubert Chambliss, Cody Wallace (Faren Von Duben), and Michael Wallace (Robyn); nephew Michael Bowling (Trisha) of Cayuga; Sister-in-law Gail Greene; brother-in-law Ricky Lee of Fairfield Texas; and three Great Grandsons he affectionally called the “Long Legged Hairy Boys” and would ask often during a visit if the “Long Legged Hairy Boys“ had been home. They are Landon Chambliss of Cuero, Westin Chambliss of San Marcos, and Caleb Hubert of Kingsville.

The family will receive condolences at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, April 6, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, with a Celebration of Life to commence at 11:00 AM. This will give family and friends the opportunity to come together and reflect on the remarkable life of Mr. Glenn E. 'Curly' Wallace. A burial will take place at a later date.
