Modesta Garcia

Modesta Garcia passed away peacefully January 5, 2019 at the age of 92. Modesta, a retired homemaker, had resided in Kingsville for over 70 years with her late husband, Isabel (Chavelo) Garcia. Modesta and Chavelo were married on March 31, 1945 in Rio Grande City, TX and were married for sixty years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo Rodriquez and Maria Bazan Rodriquez, her sisters, Angelita Rodriquez, Petra R. Ozuna and her brothers Ramon and Severino Rodriquez.
She was born in La Casita, TX near Rio Grande City on November 4, 1926. She enjoyed dancing, traveling with Chavelo and friends from the Knights of Columbus, playing BINGO, volunteering her time and talents with the Columbian Ladies where she was a member for over fifty years. Modesta was a very devout Catholic, being a lifelong member of Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church as well as a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. She practiced her Christian values being a very kind, generous and loving spouse, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved her family and friends with all her heart.
Modesta is survived by her children, Minnie Cabrera, Roberto Garcia (Sylvia), and Ruben Garcia; grandchildren, Kathy Lewis (Scott), Chris Cabrera (Yvonne), Christina Garcia, David Garcia (Elena), Megan Garcia; great-grandchildren, Madissen Lewis, Conner Lewis, Aiden Lewis, Marissa Soler, Jared Tovar, Stefani Cabrera, Chris "Ziggy" Cabrera, Austin Garcia Books, Brielle Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Modesta will be greatly missed and her memory will be cherished forever. Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas 78363. Viewing will be held January 17th from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary on General Cavazos Boulevard, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Martin of Tours Church on January 18th at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery following the Mass.
