Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Markiah Lavaye Fulbright, 24, of Kingsville, Texas, who entered eternal rest on May 22, 2026.

Markiah was born on June 6, 2001, in Kingsville, Texas, to her loving parents, Erica Mendez and Charles Fulbright. From the very beginning, she brought warmth, laughter, and light into the lives of everyone who knew her.

A proud graduate of H.M. King High School, Markiah was pursuing her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse at Southern Careers Institute. She was nearing the completion of her studies, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to a future centered on compassion and caring for others. Her nurturing spirit, generous heart, and passion for helping people reflected the kind of woman she was — selfless, loving, and deeply devoted to those around her.

Markiah’s greatest joy in life was her daughter, Xolani Capri Fulbright. She cherished every moment spent with her, creating memories filled with love, laughter, and happiness. She also treasured time with her family and friends, who will forever remember her beautiful smile, kind soul, and vibrant personality.

She had a love for life’s simple pleasures — enjoying seafood boils, making memories at the beach, and surrounding herself with the people she loved most. Her presence brought comfort and joy, and her love touched countless hearts.

Markiah was preceded in death by her beloved Great Aunt, Juanita Lozano.

She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and who will forever cherish her memory: her precious daughter, Xolani Capri Fulbright; her loving mother, Erica Mendez; her father, Charles Fulbright; her sister, Amber Delmoral; her brother, Enzo Ruff; her great-grandmother, Zulema Mendez; and her beloved niece, Sade Morales. She also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love and presence.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Services will conclude that morning.

Though her time on earth was far too short, the love Markiah gave and the lives she touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
