Maria "Lupita" Chapa

Maria “Lupita” Guadalupe Chapa, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on April 15th, 2023, at the age of 67. She was born in Kingsville, Texas on July 27th, 1955, to her late parents, Rodolfo and Lucy Rodriguez Chapa.

Maria is survived by her loving son, Juan Nicholas Chapa, her siblings Carmen Chapa, Chino Chapa, David Chapa, Alonzo Chapa (wife Denise), Martin Chapa (wife Marisa), and numerous nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

Maria was a faithful member of Saint Martin's Parish, where she found great joy and comfort in her faith. She retired in 2017 after a 21 year career as a cook at the Naval Air Station Kingsville Child Development Center, where she had a positive impact on countless young children's lives.

Maria was an exceptional cook and baker, and her culinary skills were renowned throughout the community. She found great pleasure in cooking for her family and friends and was always eager to share her delicious meals and recipes, her cakes and Thanksgiving stuffing in particular. Maria's three most favorite things in life were being a devoted mother to her son Nick, talking on the phone, and sipping on her beloved Dr. Pepper. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched with her friendship, kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Pallbearers are Cousins Rolando Chapa, Sylvester Chapa, Samuel Chapa and Joe Rodriguez. Brother Martin Chapa, and Nephew Steven Chapa.

Honorary pallbearers: brothers Chino Chapa, David Chapa, and Alonzo Chapa.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 24, 2023, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, it will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Rosary service at 10:30 a.m. A church service at 11 a.m. & subsequent burial at 12 p.m. at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery. A lunch gathering at 1 p.m. will follow at St. Martin’s Parish Hall. Maria will be laid to rest next to her parents at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery following the service. May she rest in peace.

A graveside service will be on Wednesday, April 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
