Maria A. Heras, known to her family and friends as “Pola”, was a remarkable person. She was a loving and caring wife, parent, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. On October 14, 2020, at the age of 76, she was called home to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a long and courageous battle with chronic illness. She was cared for, loved, and surrounded by her devoted family.
Pola was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Antonio and Lucia Zuñiga on September 6, 1944. She married her late husband Valentin Heras Sr., together they had four children: Valentin Heras Jr. of Bishop, Tx, Valerie Soliz of Kingsville, Tx, the late Victoria “Vicky” Heras, and Velma (Mando Liguez) Heras of Bishop, Tx.
She is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, one brother, Zaragoza (Yolanda) Zuñiga, and her daughter Vicky.
She is survived by her son Valentin Heras Jr, two daughters, Valerie and Velma, one sister, Irene (Arnold) Sanchez of Kingsville, Tx, and one brother, Victor (Sylvia) Zuñiga of San Antonio, Tx. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored with all her heart.
Pola loved life and lived it to the fullest. She had a passion for traveling near and far, she enjoyed all kinds of music and loved to dance, laugh, and have a great time. Pola never met a stranger, she could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere and make them feel welcome and at ease as if they were old friends. She is remembered fondly for her incredible strength and her selfless generosity toward others. But above all else, her family came first and they meant the world to her. Her generosity was endless, always giving everything she could for those she held dear. She raised her family with the greatest love and left them all with the most beautiful memories that they will undoubtedly carry with them always.
A private celebration of life and visitation will be held on October 19, 2020, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary from 5 pm-9 pm with a reciting of the Holy Rosary from 6 pm to 7 pm. The funeral service will begin at 7 pm. The live stream will be available 5 minutes before the rosary so services may be viewed.
