Maria L. Rivas Hasette

Maria L. Rivas Hasette, a loving wife of 40 years, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, in Portland, TX.  She was a woman of immense love, care, and charm. Her warmth and affection touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Maria found joy in the simple pleasures of life and held her family dear to her heart.

Born on April 9, 1945, in Sarita, Texas, Maria lived a life marked by kindness and compassion. Her endearing personality was characterized by a wonderful sense of humor and a distinctive laugh that could brighten even the gloomiest of days. Maria's laughter echoed through the hearts of her loved ones, leaving behind lasting memories.  Maria's family meant everything to her. She found peace and happiness in their presence and dedicated herself to fostering strong bonds among them. As a caring grandmother, she showered her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with unconditional love and made every moment spent with them special.

 

Maria may no longer grace this world with her radiant presence, but the impact of her love and kindness will resonate for eternity. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and warmth that will forever be treasured.

In this time of grief, let us remember Maria's infectious laughter and the imprints of love she left on our hearts. May her spirit guide us to embrace the simple joys of life and cherish our loved ones as she did. Maria will be greatly missed by her devoted family and all who knew her.

 

She was proceeded in death by the father of her children, Ismael A. Rivas; son, John I. Rivas; parents, Antonio G. and Elena Cantu; brothers, Antonio G. Cantu, Pete Cantu, and Armando Cantu; sister, Mary Helen “Nena” Durbin; and sister-in-law, Ana Cantu.

 

Among those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Hasette; daughters, Belinda (Orlando) Vela and Selina Rivas; brothers, Benny (Pearl) Cantu and Juan Jose (Mary) Cantu; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

 

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas; with a prayer service to begin at 7:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at La Hermosa Church, 714 E. Ave B, Kingsville, TX.  A rite of committal and interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
