Marchia Hutchison

Marchia Hutchison, 83, passed away on September 28, 2019 in Kingsville, Texas.  She was born on August 18, 1936 in Waco, Texas to James B. and Bennie Luker.

Marchia grew up in Kingsville, graduating in 1954 from H.M. King School. She worked her way through Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, as an employee of General Telephone Company and graduated in 1959. She married and had a son, Michael C. Hutchison, Jr., born in 1961. She later moved with her son to Kingsville in 1972 and became active in her family church, First Baptist Church of Kingsville, where she became an active member of the faith community, serving in many capacities. Marchia worked as Administrative Assistant for eight Presidents of the University System (Texas A&I and Texas A&M Kingsville) from 1972-2007. After her retirement, she volunteered in the TAMUK Archives to share her historical knowledge in preserving the history of the University. Her loyalty, faith in God, and love for her family, church family, co-workers, and friends were reflected in her faithful life of service wherever she was needed. Marchia never stopped caring for people and cheering for the Javelinas!

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Bennie; stepmother, Opal C. Luker; son, Michael C. Hutchison, Jr., and stepsisters, Rene Cooper and June Cooper.

She is survived by her brother, James, B. Luker, Jr.; grandson, Cameron M. (Megan) Davis; and daughter-in-law, The Reverend Gena (Gary) Davis.

Visitation will be held from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2019 continuing with a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Kingsville, officiated by Pastor Jack Willoughby.  Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Texas A&M Kingsville Scholarship Fund or charity of choice.
