Lisa Marroquin Vasquez, 74, of Kingsville, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. A lifelong educator, devoted mother, nurturing grandmother, and compassionate foster parent, Lisa lived a life rooted in service, love, and unwavering faith. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the profound impact she made on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on October 30, 1950 to Johnny Marroquin Sr. and Evangelina Marroquin, Lisa was raised in Kingsville, where she graduated from H.M. King High School in 1968. With a deep commitment to learning and a desire to serve others, she pursued higher education at Texas A&I University, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education.
For 32 years, Lisa dedicated herself to the education and development of young minds, primarily as an elementary school teacher at Ricardo Independent School District. Her classroom was more than a place of academics, it was a place of mentorship, encouragement, and life lessons. Lisa believed in nurturing the whole child, inspiring her students to not only strive for academic success but also to become responsible, and thoughtful individuals. Her former students often returned years later to thank her for the lasting lessons she instilled.
Outside of her career, Lisa’s life was centered around her family. She was a supportive and devoted mother and a proud, active grandmother. Lisa attended countless school events, games, and family gatherings, always offering love, guidance, and a warm embrace.
Lisa was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Johnny Marroquin Sr. and Evangelina Marroquin, as well as her brother, Johnny Marroquin Jr. She is survived by her son, Edward (Roxanne) Vasquez; her daughter, Elaine Vasquez; her grandchildren, Nicholas Vasquez, Nadya (Mario) Amaro, Edward Vasquez Jr., Coby Medlock, Caleb Medlock, Caitlin Medlock, and Carlyssa Medlock; and her great-granddaughter, Elena Sofia Amaro.
Her heart extended beyond her immediate family. As a licensed foster parent, Lisa opened her home to many children over the years, providing them with safety, stability, and unconditional love. To those children, she was more than a caregiver, she was a true source of comfort and hope.
Lisa will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and deep compassion. She had a natural gift for nurturing others, and an unshakable faith that carried her through life’s challenges with grace. Lisa leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, wisdom, and resilience. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, and all who were fortunate to be touched by her presence.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church, followed by a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., with Father Alfredo officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary.
The family of Ms. Vasquez extend their heartfelt gratitude to Altus Hospice, Lone Star Ranch Nursing Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, NSCL, and Dr. Robert Morales for their compassionate care and support during her final days.
