Leonires Vela

Leonires Vela, a retired machine operator and former horse breeder for King Ranch, passed away on May 24, 2024, at the age of 92. Mr. Vela was born on January 8, 1932, in Benavides, Texas, and during his time on this earth, he touched the lives of many with his kind and welcoming nature.
 
One of Leonires' greatest joys in life was spending quality time with his beloved family. His warm presence and caring demeanor made every moment spent with him a treasure to be cherished forever. As a former horse breeder for King Ranch, his passion for these magnificent animals showed in everything he did. His dedication to his work was evident to all who knew him.
 

In the hearts of those who survive him, Leonires leaves a legacy of love and kindness. His memory will be carried on by his family - both immediate and extended - who were fortunate enough to experience the depth of his love firsthand. He will forever be remembered as a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support.
 
As we bid farewell to Leonires Vela, we find solace in the memories he created and the lives he touched. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love that he so freely gave during his time among us.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Alicia P. Vela; son, Andres Vela; parents, Serapio and Sara Vela; and sister, Alma Olan.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Leonires Vela, Jr (Gloria) and Jesse Vela of Bishop, TX; daughter, Marianne Lopez of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Domingo Vela of Kansas City, MO and John Dix of Corpus Christi, TX; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

The family will receive condolences at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a eulogy at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Evangelico Cemetery, Bishop, TX.
