Leonard S. Huskey

Leonard S. Huskey, a cherished father, grandfather, husband, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 12, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Born November 11, 1942, in Jonesville, VA, Len grew up in Knoxville, TN. He enlisted in US Navy during his last year of high school. After boot camp in San Diego, CA, Len was stationed in Kingsville, where he met the love of his life, Rosemary May. They married in December 1962 and were together until his death.

Len's early years were a tapestry of experiences in Kingsville, Pasadena, Friendswood, Wortham, and Granbury. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Texas A&I University in Kingsville, where he laid the foundation for a successful career ahead. From his days at Celanese to Texas Utilities, he dedicated himself to his work with diligence and passion. Upon retirement, Len and his beloved wife Rosemary ventured back to Kingsville, marking the beginning of an entrepreneurial chapter that would define the next three decades of their lives. Together, they navigated the world of self-employment, owning and managing various businesses that became staples in the community. Hurricane Car Wash, Cascade Car Wash, Laundry Maid – each establishment bore the imprint of Len's hard work and commitment to excellence. Additionally, his ventures into property ownership showcased his acumen for investments and growth.

Beyond the realm of business, Len found joy in simple yet profound pleasures. Gardening was not just a hobby for him; it was a form of artistry that brought life and color to his surroundings. Traveling in his RV allowed him to explore new horizons and create lasting memories with loved ones. Family was at the core of Len's being, evident in the time he dedicated to them and the wisdom he shared across generations. Known for his quick wit and mischievous pranks on his children during their younger years, Len's sense of humor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His interactions with customers reflected not only a businessman's savvy but also a genuine interest in connecting with others on a personal level. Len's legacy transcends mere transactions; it lies in the relationships he cultivated and nurtured over the years. His grandson, whom he mentored in the intricacies of running a small business, now carries forth the torch that Len lit – a testament to the impact he had on those around him.

Len is preceded in death by his parents, James E. & Alpha O. Huskey; brother, Jimmy Huskey; sister, Nancy Graves; and son, Leonard S. (Butch) Huskey, Jr. He is survived by his loving family; wife, Rosemary Huskey; brother Johnny (Marion) Huskey; sisters Joann (Don) Kiser, Brenda (Ralph) Tallent, Bernice (Steve) Julian; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah & Randy Branstetter; and grandson, Connor Branstetter and many nieces and nephews.
