Julie Evans

Julie Smith Evans passed away at her home on July 12, 2019 at the age of 83 surrounded by her family. She was born in Awendaw, South Carolina on September 26, 1935 to James & Amanda (Green) Smith.  Julie was a military spouse for over 22 years living in Europe, Asia, and several states. She was also a pre-K teacher in Japan and Texas for many years. She settled back in Bishop on August 25, 2018. Julie was a devoted Christian and attended King Star Baptist Church of Kingsville, Texas for about 20 years, and Mt. Pleasant Church in Sugar Land, Texas for 16 years.

She is preceded in death by her father James Smith; her mother Amanda Green Smith; step-mother Martha Brown Smith; siblings Lewis Smith, Aretha Cave, David Smith, Harold Smith, Susie Sanders, & James Anderson Smith.

Julie is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, LeRoy Evans, Jr; two sons, LeRoy Evans, III of Bishop and Dwight (Lisa) Evans of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Ernest Smith Washington of Poughkeepsie, NY; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at King Star Baptist Church. Service will conclude at the church.
