Jose Luz Gonzalez, age 67, passed away peacefully in Bishop, Texas, surrounded by loved ones on October 1, 2025.
Born on December 25, 1957. In the small rancho of San Roque, located in Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico. “Luz” lived a life full of hard work, strength, and compassion. He was known for his dedication to ranching and farming, his love for his family, and being a friend to all who crossed his path.
Jose Luz Gonzalez was the beloved husband of Bernarda Gonzalez, and a devoted father to Cesar Gonzalez, Lisa (Luis Antonio) Romero, Mauro (Nohemi) Gonzalez, Belinda (Samuel) Balderas, Valentin (Roxanna) Gonzales, Cristina (Matt) Rios, and Lue Gonzales. He took great pride in his family and nothing brought more joy to him than tending to his roosters, chickens, and horses, Sunday barbecues with an ice-cold beer in his hand, and his grandchildren running around the house. Whether it was a simple drive to the rancho, a dynamic family gathering or holiday, Luz was always ready to have a great time and created lasting memories with every moment.
Throughout his life, Luz gave generously of himself - not just to his family, but to friends, neighbors, and even strangers. He was always ready to lend a hand.
Luz spent 45 years working as a farmer, where he was respected for his integrity, dedication, and work ethic. Beyond work, he found joy in taking care of his garden, teaching his kids and grandkids life lessons and skills that they would need for the rest of their lives. He also enjoyed having simple conversations with friends while enjoying a 6-pack.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mauro Gonzalez; daughter, Claudia Gonzales; Sacramento Gonzalez, Miguel Gonzalez, and Concepcion Gonzalez.
Left to cherish his legacy and memory are his mother, Genoveva Camacho; his brother, Leonso Gonzalez; three sisters, Alicia (Rufino) Palomares, Maria Guadalupe (late Raul) Rodriguez, Felicitas Gonzalez; his grandchildren, Luis Romero, Claudia Romero, Viviana Romero, Alexis Zapata, Ramon Vasquez, Mauro Gonzalez Jr. Israel Gonzalez, Madalyn Balderas, Samuel Balderas Jr. Lucas Balderas, Yesenia Gonzales, Osciel (OV) Gonzales, Iliana Rios, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolences, Monday, October 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, 603 W. 3rd St, Bishop, TX 78343. A rite of committal and interment will follow at St. James Cemetery at 11:15 am in Bishop, Texas.
Luz’s Light, love, and laughter will forever remain in our hearts. Though he may be gone from our sight, his love will live on in every life he touched.
