Joe Alaniz

Joe L. Alaniz, age 69, a resident of Kingsville, Texas passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born February 25, 1949 in Kingsville to Julian Alaniz and Enriqueta Vela Alaniz. Joe was a 1969 graduate of H.M. King High School. He worked as an operator for Celanese until he became disabled in 1986 and later retired. Joe was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic church. There he faithfully held the Director of Music position and played along with his family and friends for 37 years. Together they provided music for so many members of the community during their time of grief. Joe was known for his musical talents and he toured across the United States with his conjunto Los Exitos de Joe Alaniz during the 70's and early 80's. His hobbies included spending time with his family, and having Wednesday night "Jam Sessions" with his compadres.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Rachel S. Alaniz, his parents, Julian and Enriqueta Vela Alaniz, two brothers, Julian Alaniz Jr., David Omar Alaniz and one sister, Esperanza "Hope" Alaniz all of Kingsville, Texas. Joe is survived by one son, Jose Luis "Joey" Alaniz Jr. of Kingsville, Texas; three daughters, Priscilla Alaniz Cantu and Melissa Alaniz-Longoria (David), both of Kingsville, Texas; and Marisela R. Alaniz of Cypress, Texas. One sister, Alicia Gamez (Juan) and one brother Guadalupe Alaniz (Maria Luisa) both of Kingsville, Texas. Five granddaughters, Aleida Rose Cantu, Andrea Raquel Cantu, Selina Ide' Longoria, Marina Gabriela Alaniz and Dariela Renae Alaniz, and two grandsons, David Arnold Longoria Jr., and Jose Luis "Tres" Alaniz III, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Alaniz will be Sunday June 3, 2018 from 5:30pm- 7:00pm at Knights of Columbus Hall 1600 N. 14th Street, Kingsville, Texas 78363 with the Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass will be Monday June 4, 2018 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church 1102 E. Kleberg Ave., Kingsville, Texas 78363. Immediately following the funeral mass, procession will follow to Santa Gertrudis Cemetery 835 W. Caesar Ave., Kingsville, Texas 78363.
