Jesus M. Avelar, Sr.

Jesus M. Avelar, Sr. passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the age of 81.  He was a bus driver for Kingsville ISD for many years, before he retired from Bishop CISD.  Jesus enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, barbeques with family and friends; he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon C. and Rosa Marquez Avelar; siblings, Blas Avelar, Sr., Rey Abelar, Sr., Ramona Torres, Rosabell Alcantara, Socorro Avelar, Maria Elena Kindla, Mariola Mirelez, Consuelo Arispe, and Manuela Avelar.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Gloria Moreno Avelar; children, Cindy (Oscar) Arevalo, Maggie (Jimmy) Abrigo, Jesus (Rose) Avelar, Jr., Grace Avelar, Evelinda Avelar, and Andy (Wanda) Avelar; siblings, Leon C. Avelar, Jr. and Jose Avelar, Sr.; grandchildren, Fred Steven (Brenda) Galindo, Rebecca (Marcus) Cantu, Pamela (Dwayne) Hinojosa, Maegan (Michael) Vela, Victoria Arevalo, Sarah (Eddie) Saenz, Madeline (Richard) Denton, Jesus “Tres” Avelar, III., Jimmy Matthew Abrigo, Lauren Avelar, Justin Avelar, and Ace Avelar; great-grandchildren, Zachary Hinojosa, Eliana Grace Abrigo, J.W. Abrigo, Aliza Denton, Bowen Hinojosa, Emalee Galindo, Dawson Saenz, Julianne Cantu, Slade Vela, Deklan Denton, Nicolas Cantu, Magdelyn Vela, Cole Saenz, and Levi Galindo; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.  A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Martin Catholic Church.  Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
