Mata Serrato
August 6, 1947 – March 8, 2026
Jesus Mata Serrato, 78, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, in Camargo, Tamaulipas. He was born on August 6, 1947, to Juan Mata Estrada and Maria Serrato Equia.
Jesus spent many years working for the Celanese Plant then later the City of Kingsville Street Department, before he moved to Miguel Aleman, Mexico, where he spent the last 20 years. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. Through his hard work and commitment, he built a life centered around family, friendship, and community.
He embraced life fully and was known for his vibrant personality. A true social butterfly, Jesus loved being around people, celebrating life, and bringing joy wherever he went. He especially enjoyed music and was known to break into song in the middle of the night, filling the room with laughter and unforgettable memories.
Jesus was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. Those who knew him will always remember his lively spirit, his love for gatherings, and the way he could make anyone feel like family.
Above all, Jesus was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His presence brought warmth and happiness to the lives of those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Juan Mata Estrada and Maria Serrato Equia, siblings; Maria Delfina Mata Serrato and Refugio Mata Serrato; and the love of his life, Cirila Hernandez Rodriguez.
He is survived by his four sisters and children; Jesus (Ofelia) Mata, Jr., Ruth (Joel) Salinas, Maria Teresa (Larry) Lopez, Elizabeth (Jaime) Lopez, Roel Mata, fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with an interment following at Santa Gertrudis Cemetery.
His life was a testament to love, laughter, and the importance of cherishing every moment with family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family would like to send their most sincere gratitude to Rene Reyna and his family who took care of Jesus for the last eight years of his life. It was not an easy task all the time but they did not waver, and stood by him until his last day.
