James "Jim" Scott Jr., born June 4, 1935, Washington, DC, passed away on January 13, 2026.
Jim graduated from Washington Lee high school in Arlington, Virginia and then served his country in the United States Navy where he attended the U.S. Navy School of Music, played Trumpet in the Navy Band, and was also a Swimming Instructor. Following his military service, he embarked on a career as a police officer for Arlington County, Virginia. He and his family traveled to Alabama and California where he became the owner of a security company and an early polygraph examiner.
In Kingsville, Texas, Jim embraced family and community life alongside his wife Sue and their blended family while working for his father-in-law, Walter Hock, at Walter’s Oil Field Service. Jim took a bold step and at 54 pursued a bachelor's degree from A & I Kingsville. Then went on to pursue his master’s degree at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where he graduated Summa cum Laude. He became a licensed therapist, passionately advocating for children working with foster parenting programs while being employed by Child Protective Services in Alice and Kingsville.
Together with his late wife Sue, Jim became stronger in his faith and served in his church in many ways including Lay reader and Eucharist minister. This reflected their deep faith and commitment to the Lord and helping others.
After Sue’s passing, Jim married Phyllis Ball and made many cherished memories together.
Jim is survived by his wife Phyllis; his four children, Kirk Scott, Terri (Bill) Burdett, Bruce (Veronica) Scott, and Dana (Lance) Lutenbacher; his brother, Steve (Mary) Scott, his niece Virginia Solis, and grandchildren, Justin (Brady), Travis (Marissa), and Wyatt Lutenbacher, Christopher Scott; and great-grandchildren, Reagan, Lincoln, and Nolan Lutenbacher
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James Scott, and Cecil Scott, as well as his wife, Sue (Hock) Scott.
A celebration of Jim’s life will take place on January 23, 2026, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather for a time of remembrance beginning at 9:30 AM, followed by a heartfelt Memorial Service at 11:00 AM by Pastor Don Leavell. Jim will be laid to rest at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas with military honors.
