Heliberto Q. Reyna passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born and raised in Mexico while contributing to harvesting his family’s land. Heliberto met his wife at the age of 10 and in 1954 they married and remained married for over 69 years. They started a family of 8 while living in the valley. After two decades the family relocated to the Corpus Christi area adding one more child to the “pack”.
Heliberto was a true warrior. Even though he endured some severe health obstacles, he continued to persevere for him and his family. Whether it was at the farm, or his own home he poured his heart and soul into everything he did, inspiring his children to reach for their own successes. While providing for his family as a farm laborer he showed a love for driving a tractor.
He possessed beautiful characteristics. First, he always had a vibrant smile that would illuminate an entire room. Additionally, his hair always had a front “churro” (curl) that would give him a distinct look. Furthermore, his shimmering appearance from all his jewelry caught everyone’s eye. His rigid look included his small pistol that was attached to his belt, which resulted in everyone respecting him. Last but not least, his most relevant attribute was his relationship with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sofia Quintero; father, Apolonio Reyna; sisters, Juanita Reyna, Ernestina Reyna, Herminia Reyna, and Maria Reyna; and brothers, Jose Reyna, Guadalupe Reyna, and Martiriano Reyna.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 69 years, Yolanda C. Reyna; children, Janie Perez, Zoila Gonzalez, Herlinda Vera (Pablo), Irma Reyna, Eliberto Reyna Jr. (Norma), Concepcion Reyna, Delmiro Reyna, Enrique Reyna, and Gabriel Omar Reyna; and he was blessed with 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive condolences on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral cortege will depart Turcotte-Piper Mortuary at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, to St. James Catholic Church, Bishop, TX, for a mass of christian burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. A Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Cemetery, Bishop, TX.
