Harriet Elaine Wines McLeod, who was born on May 26, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas. Passed February 1, 2026, in Rockport, Texas. Her kindness, integrity, and strong family values define who she was and leaves behind a legacy of love felt by all who knew her.
She grew up in Kingsville and attended King High School, class of 1960. She graduated from Texas A&I with a master's in education. Harriet spent her career at the Methodist Child Care Center. Her love for children and education shaped countless young lives. She began her career as a First-Grade teacher, nurturing curiosity, kindness and confidence in her students. In the final ten years of her service, she served as Director, leading the Center with compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to families and staff. Teaching was not just her profession - it was her calling.
Outside of her career, Harriet continued to live a life of service, friendship, and joy. She proudly co-led her daughter's Girl Scout troop for 5 years, teaching values, skills, and confidence that fostered lifelong friendships.
In later years after retirement, she volunteered as manager of the Giftshop at the Christus Spohn Kleberg Hospital. She enjoyed her Women's Groups with the Methodist Church and Red Hat Society. Nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her beloved grandchildren..
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill McLeod, as well as her parents, Frank and Naurea Wines, and her in-laws, Norman and Genevieve McLeod.
Harriet is survived by her son, Kevin (Norma) McLeod, and her daughter, Debra (John) Strothman. She was a proud grandmother to Kyler (Kara) McLeod, Joel (Blanca) Hullum, Amanda (Brad) Hullum, and Kaela (Ryan) Jumper, and lovingly embraced her three great-grandchildren, Jax Hullum, Cyra Elaine Corson, and Elliana Jumper. Her sister-in-law, Sylvia Everett, as well as her nieces, Liz Simpson and Stephanie Everett, and her nephew, Geoff Everett.
A visitation with family will take place at 11:00 AM on February 14, 2026, followed by a service at 1:00 PM. The service will conclude with interment at Chamberlain Cemetery.
Harriet will be remembered for her kind heart, her sharp wit, and her delightful sass - and for the love and laughter she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lone Star Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsville and the Rockport Nursing and Rehab Center for the loving care they provided our mom over the last few years.
In lieu of flower donations in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kingsville.
