Gwendolyn Porché Pollard

Gwendolyn Priscilla Porché Pollard, 82, passed away suddenly, February 22, 2024.  Gwendolyn was born November 23,1941 to Albert James and Lillian Lucyle (Stephenson) Porché in Beeville, Texas.  She married the love of her life, Gilbert Dewayne “Son” Pollard, on December 11, 1959. They were happily married for close to 58 years.

She was an Honor Student at Moody High School in Corpus Christi, Texas where she excelled as a violinist in the school orchestra.  She was later on the Dean’s list at Texas A&I in Kingsville, Texas.   She and Son worked together with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times in the capacity of District Manager, and later as Rural Circulation District Manager.  They were co-owners of the Kingsville Black Diamond Oyster Bar Restaurant with brother and sister-in-law, Deloy and Darlene Pollard.

“Mrs. Pollard”, “Gwendolyn”, “Gwen”, “Dodie”, or “Mawmaw” was the proud mother of three daughters.   Mawmaw dedicated her life to her family. She created a loving home where everyone who entered felt welcomed and was made to feel special. Everyone was "family" in the Pollard’s house.  Her magnetic personality, gorgeous eyes and smile were just part of her charm.  She was a very gentle and loving person who was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside living life her way, with passion and a dash of stubbornness.

A brilliantly talented artist, she attended and participated in many art shows and workshops. She loved animals and had several hobbies, including cooking, painting, crocheting, sculpturing, gardening, crafting, reading, playing the piano, and writing limericks.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Dewayne “Son” Pollard; parents; and sisters, Mary Alice “Sissy” Atwood and June Ann Thompson.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Audrey Delaine Pollard Gaston (John) of Boerne, Texas, Dana Rachelle Pollard Barker (Everett) of Ricardo, Texas, Diedre Annette Pollard Roder (Lee) of Boerne, Texas; brother, Albert James “A.J.” Porché, Jr. of Seguin, Texas; grandchildren, Frank Miller “Trey” Graham, III (Kaleigh), Delaine Victoria “Tori” Graham Faxel  (Anthony James “A.J.”), Collin Samuel Gaston (Brittney), Caleb Dewayne Gaston, Tessa Miriam Gaston, Stewart Martin “Chip” Holliday, Jr. (Molly), Everett Calvin Barker III (Denise), Matthew James Barker (Maria), Dylan Michael Boss (Jordan), Cade Ryan Boss (Sam), Kamryn Elizabeth Boss, Derek Christopher Roder, Jared Nathaniel Roder (Katie), Erin Michelle Sale (Dustin), Ardon Michael Roder (Natalie), and Elyssa Ariel Roder; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many life-long friends.

Gwen will be missed by all who knew her, but we all have peace knowing that she is free from pain in God’s presence waltzing with the love of her life in Heaven!
