Obituary

Eva R. Lopez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was born on October 10, 1942, in Charco, Texas, to Natividad and Eva Rodriguez. On June 10, 2026, she passed away peacefully at the age of 83, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Eva's life was defined by love, faith, selflessness, and a constant willingness to help. She gave without measure and cared without end.

Eva was a devoted military wife for nine years, accompanying her husband on assignments that took their family to Roswell, New Mexico; Riverside, California; Guam; and Oscoda, Michigan. Although she did not have the opportunity to complete high school, she began working at a young age picking cotton in the fields of Robstown, Texas. Because of her own sacrifices, it brought her tremendous pride and joy to watch her children and grandchildren graduate from Bishop High School.

As a young woman, Eva learned the valuable trade of sewing, a skill that would shape much of her life. Her talent and work ethic led to a successful 25-year career at Haggar Clothing Company, where she served as a Line Supervisor. Under her leadership, Eva earned numerous awards for leading some of the company's top-performing production lines. She was often assigned to struggling lines because of her proven ability to increase productivity and help workers succeed. Her hands-on leadership style, patience, and thoughtful gifts she often created for her team made her highly respected and loved by her coworkers. Even after Haggar closed in 1995, Eva was selected to continue training line workers in Weslaco, Texas, helping increase production for the company's pants line.

Eva was a woman of many talents and interests. She enjoyed ceramics, cake decorating, flower arranging, crocheting, needlework, singing at church, making pan de polvo, tamales, and volunteering her time to help others.

Eva's love for the Bishop Badgers extended far beyond her own family. She faithfully attended her grandchildren's games, cheering them on through every season and celebrating their successes. Even after her grandchildren were no longer competing, Eva remained a dedicated supporter of Bishop Athletics. Alongside her daughter Karen, she could often be found traveling to games and filling the stands. Her loyalty to the Badgers and pride in her hometown never wavered, making her a familiar and beloved face at many sporting events over the years.

There are countless memories of Eva because she touched so many lives. Her husband will always remember her affectionate terms of endearment, "Hun" and "Honey." Many cherished moments were shared in her big living room and sewing room, where she helped numerous people with alterations for cheerleading uniforms, prom dresses, wedding gowns, military uniforms, and everyday clothing. No matter how difficult or complicated the request, Eva always found a way to make it work.

When it came time to get paid for her work, she would often simply say, "Pay me whatever you think." For Eva, helping others was always far more important than any monetary reward. Her generosity, kindness, and willingness to serve others left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

One of her proudest honors came in 2018 when she was recognized by the Bishop Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of the "Outstanding Citizen" Award. This recognition reflected a lifetime of selfless service to her community.

Eva generously provided alterations free of charge for local law enforcement officers, military personnel, Little League and Boy Scouts. She faithfully volunteered at Vacation Bible Schools in Bishop and Kingsville for many summers and was a familiar face at both the Bishop Food Bank and the Bishop Community Center, where she gladly gave her time to help others.

Eva was also deeply devoted to her faith. She rarely missed church, sometimes attending as many as three services on a single Sunday. While she loved serving her family and community, her greatest joy and highest calling was serving the Lord. Her faith, generosity, and servant's heart were evident in every aspect of her life.

Eva spent her lifetime devoted to three things: serving her family, serving her community, and serving the Lord. She often said, "God is so good," and she lived her life as a testament to that belief. Her faith in the Lord, love for her family, and commitment to serving others created a legacy that will live on for generations. Though her presence will be greatly missed, her example of kindness, humility, and devotion will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Natividad and Eva Rodriguez; her brothers and sisters, Samuel, Isaias, Daniel, Rosa, Guermilla, and Maria; and her beloved son-in-law, Noe I. Garza.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Roel Lopez, Sr.; her children, Karen Garza, Larry R. Lopez, and Roel Lopez, Jr. (Sarita), all from Bishop.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer (George Trice), Jessica (John Garcia), Noe I. Garza Jr. "Baby Noe," Lauren (Dustin Herrera), Emily Lopez (fiancé Bryan Sample), Natalie (Sergio Galvan), and Roel Lopez III ("Rollie").

Eva was further blessed with six treasured great-grandchildren: Lyla Mae, Jeep "Jeepie," Jordyn "Jody," Jett, Augie, and Cecilia.

Family Pallbearers: Roel Lopez, lll., Noe I. Garza, Jr., Sergio Galvan, John Garcia, Dustin Herrera, George Trice, and Bryan Sample.

Honorary Pallbearers: Augie Herrera, Jett Garcia, and James P. Trice, ll.

A visitation will take place on June 15, 2026, at 10am, with a funeral service following after at 1pm at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary. A burial will conclude at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, located in Corpus Christi, Texas, on June 16, 2026, at 10am.
