Born on January 8, 1953, and raised on the historic King Ranch, Eugenio dedicated much of his life to his community and family, leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy.

Eugenio had a diverse and fulfilling career, beginning with a position at Celanese, which paved the way for his future endeavors. He later ventured into fencing, initially working with Fred Ketchum Fencing before partnering with his brother to establish E&M Custom Fencing. This enterprise served the community for many years and exemplified Eugenio's strong work ethic and dedication. He concluded his professional journey with a rewarding retirement from The City of Kingsville.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Eugenio embodied the qualities of a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was especially fond of spending time with his grandsons, imparting wisdom, humor, and warmth that they will carry with them throughout their lives. His devotion to family was evident in all he did, and he took immense pride in his role as a patriarch.

Eugenio had a passion for cooking that further highlighted his nurturing spirit. He catered for weddings, private parties, and quinceañera, bringing joy and delicious meals to countless celebrations. He was particularly renowned for his famous Pan de Campo, which he prepared every year at the Ranch Hand Festival in downtown Kingsville, showcasing his love for culinary traditions and community festivities. Additionally, Eugenio enjoyed game processing, making homemade sausage and chorizo, further reflecting his love for sharing food and creating memorable experiences with loved ones.

The life of Eugenio Pena Mendietta serves as a testament to hard work, family love, and a deep sense of community. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Jr., and Gavina (Medina) Mendietta; grandmother, Rosaura P. Mendietta; brother, Jose Erasmo “Coche” Mendietta.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51years, Lydia Mendietta; daughters, Veronica (Jeronimo) Mendietta-Sotoj and Viviana (Mingo Reyna) Mendietta; siblings, Guillermo “Wille” (Josie) Mendietta, Javiel (Blanca) Mendietta, Manuel “Meme” (Noelia) Mendietta, Martin (Christina) Mendietta, III., Jose Alfredo “Freddie” (Christina) Mendietta, Bartolo Mendietta, and Augustin Mendietta; grandsons, Adam and Vincent; six bonus grandchildren; one bonus great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Turcotte-Piper Chapel; services will conclude that morning.
