Eliseo "Cheo" P. Hernandez

August 12, 1941 — June 1, 2024

Eliseo "Cheo" P. Hernandez

Eliseo “Cheo” Hernandez, 82, a lifelong resident of Bishop, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Cheo was born on August 12, 1941, in Petronila, Texas to Maria and Filiberto Hernandez. He was one of six children. As a young adult, Cheo moved to Crosbyton, Tx to work the cotton fields. When he returned to Bishop, he met his future wife, Porfiria “Pila” Perez. As migrant farmers, they would travel back and forth to Idaho, and eventually settled in Bishop in 1971. They would go on to have five boys, Hector, Eliseo Jr., Jose (Joe) Armando, Rogelio (Roy) and Rene.

Cheo was employed with various companies including Moerbe Insulation, Brown and Root, Arthur Brothers, and the Mundy Co.  Cheo then retired from Brock Jacobs in 2004.  For the next several years he would lovingly care for his wife until her passing.

His favorite interests included watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, and his favorite baseball team, the Houston Astros and anything and everything related to Wrestling.  He loved listening to and playing music, dancing the night away, fishing with family, gambling in Lake Charles, and going to his and Pila’s favorite destination, Las Vegas.

Cheo was a lifelong Catholic and member of St. James Catholic Church.  On July 26, 2015, he became a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #16275.  He reached the rank of a third-degree Knight.

Cheo had a sense of humor larger than life.  He never met a stranger; he had a way of making everyone he met feel special.  With his smile and laughter, he was always the life of any party, and you couldn’t help to laugh along with him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Porfiria “Pila” Hernandez; son, Hector Hernandez; parents, Filiberto S. and Maria P. Hernandez; and sister, Connie Hernandez.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his children, Eliseo Hernandez Jr., of Houston, Jose (Joe) Armando Hernandez (Mary) of Corpus Christi, Roy Hernandez (Melissa) of Bishop, Rene Hernandez (Chiko & Franco) of Dallas, and Nora Perez Castro (Cosme), of San Antonio; grandchildren, Joe Anthony Hernandez of Corpus Christi, Amanda Hernandez, Natalie Hernandez, and Sarah Hernandez of San Antonio, and Lucas Chavez of Bishop; siblings, Emma Barrientes of Bishop, Filiberto Hernandez (Alicia) of Houston, Abelardo Hernandez (Guadalupe) of Houston, and Mike Hernandez of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
