Edwin J. Bowers passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023, in Kingsville Texas at the age of 81. He was born in Roswell, New Mexico on July 11, 1942, to Johnanna (Laxson) Bowers and Edwin J. Bowers Sr. He graduated from Lufkin High School in Lufkin Texas and went on to receive both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Texas A&M University. Edwin served his country in the United States Army as a tank commander/instructor stationed in El Paso Texas where he first fell in love with the Rio Grande border. He began his career with the USDA as a cowboy for the Fever Tick Eradication program and retired 46 years later as the Field Director.
Edwin met and married Edna “Marie” Barrow Bowers in 1971 and they raised 3 sons. John (Alaina) Bowers of Kingsville Texas, Samuel (Valerie) Bowers of Aguilares Texas, Jacob (Aracely) Bowers of Kingsville Texas, and 5 grandchildren Brant “Hunter” Bowers, Johnanna (Nick) Cavazos, Emmalynn Bowers, Olivia Bowers and Cecilia Bowers. He was content with simple things in life and gave generously to others. He will be sorely missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Edwin is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Marie Bowers.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the Three Rivers Cemetery in Three Rivers, Texas at 2:00 pm.
