Dorothy Jordan Benjamin, 101, went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2019. She was born in Kingsville, Texas on February 25, 1918 to William James Jordan and Winnie Williams Jordan. Her parents were early settlers in Kingsville. Her father helped build the railroad and brought the 1st train into Kingsville July 4, 1904. She had one son Leo (Dub) Benjamin, Jr and one sister Winnie Maye Broussard. Dorothy graduated from H.M. King High School in 1936. She attended Texas A&I College and worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and King Ranch. In 1984 she retired from the city of Kingsville after 15 years of being secretary to the city engineer. In 1936 Dorothy married Leo W. Benjamin and their son Leo Jr. was born in 1938. Her many interests included gardening, her pets and reading Texas history, especially Kingsville and King Ranch history. She was a member of the Texas Historical Society.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, sister Winnie Maye, and son Leo (Dub) Benjamin, Jr. of Kingsville.
Dorothy was a kind, gentle Christian lady. She loved our lord and has gone to be with Him. She will be greatly missed by many friends, including Maggie Salinas a longtime family friend.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery in Kingsville, Texas.
Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd. Kingsville, Texas 78363.
