In Loving Memory of David Hinojosa Cavazos

October 22, 1949 – October 7, 2026

David Hinojosa Cavazos, 76, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Kingsville, Texas.

Born on October 22, 1949, in Kingsville to Zaragoza and Elida Cavazos, David lived a life devoted to family, education, and service to his country.

David graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville with a degree in Business. Following his graduation, he began his professional career as a financial analyst. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army and later in the Reserves, where his dedication, leadership, and commitment led him to achieve the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel. David continued sharing his knowledge and life experiences with others as a college professor. His varied career reflected his intelligence, strong work ethic, leadership, and lifelong commitment to learning and service.

David had a true gift with words. Whether sharing a story, offering advice, teaching a lesson, or simply having a conversation, he had a way of saying things that stayed with you.

He also appreciated life’s simple pleasures. David loved music, especially Little Joe, and was a devoted Houston Astros fan. He enjoyed taking scenic train rides and treasured a good cup of coffee with pan dulce. These simple joys were part of what made David so memorable to those who knew and loved him.

David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annabelle Lee Carrillo Cavazos; his son, Michael David Cavazos; and his father, Zaragoza Cavazos.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Cavazos (Laura); his cherished grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas; his mother, Elida Cavazos; his sister, Dora Canales (Manuel); and his brothers-in-law Edward Carrillo (Delma) and Rolando Carrillo.

He will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Manuel Canales Jr. (Samantha), Joe David Canales (Veronica), Marco Canales (Dariela), Julia Campos (Jose), Jonathan Carrillo, and Ashley Gomez (AJ), along with several grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family members, former students, colleagues, and dear friends.

David leaves behind a legacy of service, education, and devotion to family. His wisdom, stories, humor, and unmistakable way with words will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Though he will be deeply missed, the memories David created and the lessons he shared will remain with his family and loved ones for generations to come.

Funeral and visitation arrangements will be announced at a later date.

May his memory forever be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace.
