David Calderon

David A. Calderon, Sr., 77, passed away on December 6, 2019 in Riviera, Texas.  He was born on December 17, 1941 in Brownsville, Texas to Maria Ofelia and Jose Alfredo Calderon, Sr.

David A. Calderon Sr.  grew up in Kingsville, Texas where he attended and graduated from H.M. King High School in 1959 and joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his Country honorably.

Upon concluding his military service, he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he was employed at Southwestern Bell and met his beautiful wife of 42 years. He proudly worked for Southwestern Bell and AT&T until his retirement in 1990. He went on to manage and run his own business D.A.C Telecommunications until he completely retired to his home in Riviera, Texas.

Mr. Calderon had a great love for his family, his wife, and especially his grandchildren. He loved his Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers, his Texas College Football, and especially his Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, bird hunting, listening to his bolero music, reading his John Grisham and James Patterson books, and telling stories of his younger years to his beloved children. His fondest memory and one he was always proud to share was when he was asked to dance by country singer Wanda Jackson at a USO dance.

He is preceded in death by parents, Jose Alfredo, Sr. and Maria Ofelia; brothers, Gonzalo Calderon, and Enrique “Henry” Calderon.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria G. Calderon, children, Diego A. (Michelle) Calderon, Cynthia (Holly) Calderon, Micaela (Paul) Stewart, Yvette (James) Holloway, Eric (Yvette) Hinojosa, Marisa (Ruben Perez) Calderon, David Calderon, Jr.; brother, Jose A. Calderon, Jr.; 16 Grandchildren; and 5 Great Grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 5 to 9 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7 PM at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville.  Funeral Service will be on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10 AM at Turcotte Piper Mortuary in Kingsville.  Interment will be at a later date at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery.
